El Camino Real de los Tejas ran from Mexico City to the Missions of East Texas, parts of which are now in Western Louisiana. It is the oldest travel route in Texas. It was not a single road but a network of trails that shifted over time.
In 2004, it was designated as a National Historic Trail. It is administered by the National Parks Service. For more information, visit www.nps.gov/elte. |
